The Senior/Chief Estimator is responsible for accurately supervising and estimating the costs associated with drywall projects for commercial clients. This role plays a critical part in the bidding process, providing detailed and competitive estimates that contribute to securing profitable contracts and ensuring the successful execution of projects. The estimator is position is critical to growing revenue through client relationships and competitive, accurate bidding.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Project Assessment:
- Review project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents to understand project requirements.
- Conduct on-site assessments to gather information and assess project scope.
- Identify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities that may impact project costs.

2. Cost Estimation:
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for drywall projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to calculate quantities, pricing, and project timelines.
- Ensure estimates align with company pricing strategies and profitability goals.
3. Bid Preparation:
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, including detailed breakdowns of costs and project deliverables.
- Collaborate with internal teams, general contractors, and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and accurate information.
- Review and analyze bid documents to ensure compliance with client requirements and specifications.
4. Client Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the bidding process.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, address inquiries, and negotiate terms as needed.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients to enhance trust and satisfaction.
- Bid follow up is a critical element of the process.
5. Market Analysis:
- Stay informed about market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry best practices related to drywall construction.
- Conduct competitive analysis to benchmark pricing and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide insights and recommendations to leadership based on market research and analysis.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of bid documents, correspondence, and project estimates.
- Prepare and present reports summarizing bid outcomes, win/loss analysis, and lessons learned.
- Document and update estimating databases with relevant pricing information and project data.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years minimum of experience in estimating multifamily/commercial drywall projects as a drywall subcontractor.
- Field experience preferred.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Procore, Plangrid).
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
