Job Description

Summary

Under the direction of the Controller, the Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the financial goals of the organization. The accountant will work closely with the Controller to manage day-to-day corporate financial operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and financial reporting.

The accountant’s responsibilities include preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations and accruals, maintaining the general ledger, and supporting schedules. The accountant will also be assisting with audit preparations, tax filings, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. The successful accountant will have a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and strong financial analysis skills. The accountant will also possess strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented, highly organized, able to work with little to no supervision, and perform well under pressure. You should bring innovation and adaptability to the role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Accounting and Analysis

  • Coordinating accounting functions and programs.
  • Ensure that all month-end financial accounting duties and all resulting financial reporting are completed promptly and accurately.
  • Preparing financial analyses and reports.
  • Full-cycle Accounts Payable, including invoice processing, vendor payments, reconciliation of AP ledger
  • Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable ledger, collection duties, and bank deposits
  • Experience with payroll systems is an asset.
  • Assisting with preparing and monitoring budgets.
  • Maintaining and reconciling balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation and support.
  • Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and noncompliance issues.
  • Assist in preparing federal, state, local, and special tax returns.
  • Contribute to developing new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
  • Performing other accounting duties and supporting the Finance Team as required or assigned.

 

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Working knowledge of GAAP.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly an intermediate knowledge of Excel.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to train and manage staff.
  • Solid technical expertise and ability to master new software quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to collaborate effectively with others.

Minimum Education And/Or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience is required, with a significant portion of that time in the real estate industry
  • 1+ years of accounting experience using Yardi.

  • Proficiency with Yardi
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Adobe Suite; willingness to learn other software programs, i.e. Govenda.
  • Organize Zoom & MS Team calls/presentations
  • Maintain records and documentation in Sharepoint
  • Masterful at implementing the Accounts Payable Process, Draw schedules and Cashflow Management
  • Experienced in performing Credit card reconciliations, bank reconciliations, accruals, etc.
  • Experienced in monitoring the following schedules: Fixed Assets, Depreciation, Amortization, Cost reimbursement, etc.
  • Monitor grant budgets, spending, schedules, etc.
  • Understand the real estate cycle, predevelopment, construction, lease-up, asset management, etc.
  • Prepare Developer Fee schedules, read/understand Partnership Agreements
  • Understand tax schedule for 1099’s, W2’s, K-1’s, etc.
  • Understand loan agreements, reconcile the loan books to the loan statements and amortization schedule, monitor the maturity dates
  • Understanding of Welfare exemptions, EDD, etc.
  • Understanding of LPs, LLCs, intercompany transactions - due to/due from, etc.
  • Maintains current knowledge of and complies with organizational and department policies and procedures
  • Produce complex financial spreadsheets
